No shoes, no problem.

Yesterday we went to the park with Ashley, Ethan and Ali. I was really excited and totally prepared...other than the fact that I forgot to pack shoes for Natalie. I had bought her these super cute Pedipeds that I had intended to use for her everyday shoes until she went up a size and really needs shoes. Unfortunately, one of the shoes is M.I.A. I think she probably crawled away with it but I can't find it anywhere. None of her other shoes really stay on so I'm out of the habit of putting them on her when we leave. It's not a great excuse, but it's all I've got. Luckily, the park grounds are covered in that rubbery flooring so it didn't hurt her to walk on it, but it was still gross. I thought I should tell the story because I'm sure some of the good moms reading this would have noticed her trashy black soled feet in the pictures, and might have thought it didn't occur to me how disgusting that really is. Trust me, I know.
Anyway, other than the hepatitis risk it ended up being such a fun day. Natalie had her first swing ride and walked, and walked, and walked around the playground. I met a lady there with two sets of twins, the older set were probably four and the younger set were seven months. After talking with her I realized that no matter what I might think, I haven't had a really hard day as a mother.
Now that I have finished those goofy vampire books (again) and I've come back to reality, I am remembering what a great escape reading can be. Such a nice little distraction from my real life. Since I am so out of the loop on good books right now I'm asking for suggestions. Please help. I am open to pretty much anything (hello...vampires?) so don't hesitate to list whatever you like.

I'd be more concerned about the swing she's chewing on in that third pic than about what she was stepping on with bare feet. ;-)

She's such a cutie, Camery!

My philosophy has always been that kids need to eat dirt and bugs to build up an immunity to all the other gross things in the world. I do draw the line at eating gum off the sidewalk. No shoes is fine too. No worries! My kids swam in the "pond" dad made by the hog-a-torium one summer when we were there and the cow patties rose to the top. They called them "dung bombs" and threw them at each other and Steve who was right in there with them. Now that's GROSS. Piper got in too but only with lots of "chicken" comments from my kids. Nothing like peer pressure from your cousins. Jack wouldn't do it.:)

ok... I have two book suggestions...

one is

Snowflower and the Secret Fan

I forget who the author is but if you look for it and can't find it let me know and I can get it...

It's about a girl who grows up in China and goes through foot binding and a lot of other things... really great book. I enjoyed it.

The Other Bolyn girl
The Queen's Fool

Again, can't remember the author... both are about the Royal court in England. The other bolyn girl was just recently made into a movie. There are a few racy parts you have to skim over but in general... really good books. I like the Queen's Fool much more. The racy part is in the VERY beginning of that one... but the rest is clean.

The Welcoming Door

This one is by Kenny Kemp. REALLY uplifting and a great easy read. It basically goes though three of the parables that Jesus taught. They're told as stories and the author takes liberties imagining Jesus in the story being a part of the parable. The idea that Jesus told stories of things that he witnessed is neat. I HIGHLY recommend it... very good read

ok.... that's all I got for now.. I'm in a book club that introduced me to all these... I'm sllllowly trying to become more literate. :)

and I totally agree... it's a great escape... like a movie... that lasts for days *grin*
